Lavender essential oil has gained the reputation as an all purpose essential oil in the aromatherapy world. That is to say, lavender essential oil is used as a remedy to numerous internal an external maladies that people are bothered with. These maladies can be anything from warts to joint pain. That is quite a range, indeed.
In that regard, lavender essential oil is almost a poster child for aromatherapy, the use of different natural oils (defined by their smell) to alleviate pains and conditions. Of course, there are those who may be skeptical about the merits of lavender essential oil and aromatherapy in general.
Many will suggest that lavender essential oil does not have a legitimate, provable therapeutic value. This type of attitude is the type that will face natural health remedies like aromatherapy. Actually, it is the same type of attitude many proven, traditional forms of medicine faced when they first appeared. For now, aromatherapy must derive its credibility from a fountain of personal accounts and individual’s experience.
Personal experience counts for a lot. Now, while some may make the statement that personal experience is anecdotal as opposed to empirical evidence, that generally results from the lack of empirical testing that has been conducted as critics often dismiss aromatherapy out of hand. And, those who swear by its benefits, do not need to conduct tests to please skeptics and cynics who are never going to buy into it no matter what anyone says. You can’t win an argument with someone who can’t or won’t listen to your point of view so don’t even try.
